linda, mpumi, tshepang and  molefi are the musicians behind blk jks aka black jacks..

their debut album “after robots” came out in “secretly canadian records“  which nurses artists like (Yeasayer – Here We Go Magic – Songs: Ohia and Antony and the Johnsons) and it’s awesome..

in their music there are elements of speedrock or deep southrock blending with psychedelia and romantism.. you can also detect hints of the rhythmical purity that defines indie bands from the Brooklyn NY outburst..

i must say that here and there they reminded me a lot of one of my favourite bands “clann zu” which no longer exist as a band.. (that’s a shame btw..)

these guys emerge from johannesburg in south africa and they are very promising.. njoy..

 

Daniel Higgs..

The multiartist Daniel Arcus Incus Ululat Higgs is coming for a live performance in Athens..and i’m very happy that i’ll get a chance to see this guy perform live..

i can listen to the music and the strangeness that surrounds it but until know i could only read and maybe watch on video streaming sites about his live appearances..and everyone agrees they’re at least self exploring and dangerously memorable..

His work concludes books of poetry and numerous collections of drawings as well as a very respected discography leading the psy folk band Lungfish and  as a solo working  performer/songwriter for a whole different musical approach..

i hope we’ll njoy for once.. cause in athens not many artists such as him visit except maybe in the summer, but still they visit the islands for freaking vacations..hope we’ll see more in the future..;)

It’s autumn time in Athens and as much as i try not to be haunted by any kind  of ghostly melodies such as baim’s, there’s this electric cloud of melancholy hovering over my head.. and so..

after the horrifying beauty of Metallic Falcons baim composed 2 albums “Death of a Sun”  in 2007 and “Laughing Boy” in 2009..

to my pitiful ears they are both mesmerizing and worth losing my self  in these whispering voices and hidden harmonies .. njoy..

a beautiful mixture of acoustix and electronix is the path followed to the mountains music.. not experimental in a hard edgy way but in the music and spirit lifting one i would say..

Forest Fire..

Lots of americana – freak folk melodicalia music is coming out these days ..

Forest Fire recorded their first lp this year in Catbird and in it’s a simple little genius

they did it with lyrics like..

1-”tonight i’m going to melt some faces, with gatling gun social skills..”

2-”you bit me with the teeth of an ungratefull dog..”

3-”don’t make an echo out of me, i don’t want to live that long..” 

the only “bad” thing is that the songs don’t last as much as i would want them to , so i have to listen to the album over and over again.

the Survival lp  is given for free on Catbird’s page or you can pay as much as you want for it which by me is “recommended”..

Nikaido Kazumi..

can we listen to a song even though we don’t understand a single word and be amazed??

cant we relate to a lyric even though it’s japanese to us but do understand it’s deeper meaning??

i first saw a video of miss Nikaido Kazumi taken from the Fiume Nights sessions of la blogotheque’s cinematographer vincent moon and she instantly started brooding in my head .. i knew what she was singing about , i related to the music and left my self float around inside her elvishly sang japanese fairytales.. she’s simply beautiful..
